You have the Power to Change your Life!

As I sit here tonight on the eve of my 53rd birthday, I can’t help thinking how fortunate my life has been.

Considering it is my 10th anniversary as a cancer survivor and I have managed to survive 7 years in business.

I have been raised in a loving family with caring parents and blessed with beautiful children, fortunate to have met my grandchildren and possibly be around to share happy times with great grandchildren.

March is such a significant month for me, my birthday on the 3rd, I had life saving surgery on the 8th March, 2006, coincidence it happens to be International Women’s Day, the day we celebrate being women. Then three years later I had an impulse to start my own business, which opened on the 29th March 2009. Why? Because I am passionate about helping others take control of their health and improve their fitness through basic nutrition and exercise.

See cancer doesn’t discriminate, no matter what state your health is in, good or bad, no matter what age or gender, it can strike anyone at anytime. I know the importance of staying fit and healthy; I believe my healthy state at the time of my diagnosis played a significant part in my survival. My immune system was reasonable it played its part well by keeping the cancer at bay. Minimal body fat and being lean meant surgery was less complicated and not as risky and I was able to recover fairly quickly.

I don’t play my cancer card very often, it’s a time in my life I prefer to leave behind, on the rare occasion I share my story to give other cancer sufferers hope. I have a 15 cm scar below my right rib cage, even though now a bit faded still reminds me not to be complacent. I was one of those victims that would most likely not survive; a liomyosarcoma is one nasty tumour with a high morbidity rate.

I am truly blessed, I recently bumped into one of my wonderful Doctor’s who assisted with my after care at the Oncology unit here in Gladstone. We smiled and exchanged greetings, always happy to see each other; I said ‘Do you know it’s been ten years?’ She looked at me and with a nod said ‘You told us Angela, you told us you would be okay.’ She believed in me and supported me through out those years. The worst anxiety ever is being in a hospital waiting room, waiting on that CT scan report. I thank her and send her love and light for believing in me and supporting the actions I took regarding my treatment.

Why did I survive when many don’t? I don’t know, I wish I knew the answer. What I can share with you is a small part of my journey, it goes like this.

The day Angela took control…

I took control because who else could I trust with my life and health, I reluctantly allowed one of the best surgeons at the PA in Brisbane to remove my tumour and he skilfully removed my right kidney as well. I give thanks and blessings to him and his team for their skill and expertise. After my six day stay in hospital I decided the rest was up to me. I kindly declined any further medical intervention other than regular CT scans. The medical team had a plan for me, but it didn’t fit into my alternative plan, after a lengthy discussion with my surgeon, oncologist and radiologist I reassured them I’d be okay.

I had a very strong belief that my best defence to stop this disease from reoccurring was by strengthening my immune system so that any cancer cells left behind from the surgery would not stand a chance.

I called in all the armed forces, so to speak, starting with prayers, followed by daily meditation and the practise of Qigong. It was then time for a complete nutrition overhaul. Self educated via the local library and Google, I learned about the best cancer fighting foods, supplementation and the evils of sugar.

After the removal of all toxins from my home, I researched personal care products and replaced those as well. Prior to surgery I attended weight training sessions six times a week, exactly 8 weeks after surgery I was back at the gym pumping weights, a wee bit lighter than I used to.

I sought help from a wonderful woman who practises Theta Healing; she reinforced my practise of creative visualisation and healing from a higher source. Give whatever name as you wish to my higher source; recognise it as you will, Jesus Christ, The Force, God, The Masters or maybe the Angels. Who or whatever it is, it’s real, the energy is there for everyone to tap into.

I was then fortunate to be introduced to Dr Dan my Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner. I referred to him as ‘Dr Dan the Man’, he changed my perception towards cancer, gave me hope where there was little given. I believe his advice, support and supplementation and a combination of all of the above are key factors to my survival.
I guess my message for anyone reading this is, believe in yourself, and know that you have the power in you to change your life.  Act on what you feel is right for you; listen to your heart and soul.

I think more clearly when I eat nutritiously and get plenty of good sleep. Personally my best meditative and healing sessions are not only when I’m practising Qigong but also when I am training on my own, either weight training or running. These are the times when I receive intuitive messages, which help me with making the right decisions, whether it’s for my personal life, business or other matters. It takes practise and discipline and sometimes we need help and support, don’t be afraid to put your hand up and ask.

At Essential Body Personal Training it’s not just about the exercise. I will support you in many ways to help you get your health and life back on track. I liaison with other health professionals and put your best interest first.
